VIEW ANNOUNCEMENTS DAILY
I strongly suggest that you view the announcements in the
regular "Announcements" section on a daily basis and especially before you go to a dance. Sometimes announcements come to me at the
last minute
and you may miss an important one.
Any new announcement that has been made within the last 24 hours will appear in red
type for easy and quick recognition. This makes it easy
for viewers who visit this site daily to quickly read through
just the new announcements.

WANT YOUR EVENT COVERED:
CONTACT ME
(04/08/09) I want to give a wider scope of coverage to the Dance
Community. Therefore, new
dances
and new locations will be brought under the site's umbrella.
If you attend a dance that The Nightly Planet has never covered before, or
hasn't covered in a
long time, simply ask the dance owner to contact me. All requests will
be considered.
If you are a dance owner and would like The Nightly Planet to cover your
dance, then please contact
me by going to the "Contact Us" link in the bottom right hand corner of the
Home Page.
If you are going to hold a Match Comp, Showcase, or a Major Dance
Competition, simply contact me
and request coverage. Once again, all requests are considered.
I will announce certain events that I intend to cover by placing a black (*)
in front of the dance on
the monthly dance calendar.

FIND DANCE:
(A-Z DANCE LINKS) vs.
(DANCE COMMUNITY)
(06/17/09) There are two different links on the home page showing all the
places to dance that are listed
on this website.
"Dance Community" shows the dances by category. For instance, Ballroom
Dances, Singles, Salsa, Hustle, Night Club, Big Band, etc. For instance, if
you wanted to know where to go Salsa or where you could find a Singles Dance, you would look
under the"Dance Community" section. This section also
gives you an expandable
Zoning Map of Atlanta that can be enlarged with one click to help you quickly determine
what part of Atlanta the dance is being held in. The Zone of each dance is listed
by its name
in the listings table for that type of dance. It further gives links to the
dance teachers, disk jockey's,
and masters of ceremonies in Atlanta.
"A-Z Dance Links" shows a comprehensive alphabetic listing of all of them in
one spot in A-Z order. It also gives links to the dance teachers, disk
jockey's, and masters of ceremonies in Atlanta, as well as a quick link to Google Maps.
Both sections have active links to all the dance's websites.

ALWAYS
CONFIRM DANCE YOU PLAN TO ATTEND
Before leaving for a dance, always confirm it on the website
of the dance you plan to attend. You
can go
to their website by linking on the name of the dance
site. It is listed on the "CALENDAR" page, the
"A-Z DANCE LINKS" page, and the "DANCE COMMUNITY" page.
Remember,
dances list on this site are not
official and are subject to change by the dance holder at any
time.

NEED DIRECTIONS TO A DANCE:
NO PROBLEM
If you know the exact name of the dance, you can easily click A-Z Dance
Links on the Home Page of this site. The address will be listed next to the
name of the dance. Simply copy the street address from that cell (Control C).
Next, click on Google Maps at the top of the page. Then, paste the address into the
"Search Maps" window (Control V) and click Search Maps. The left side of the page
that comes up
will help you pick the exact location, in case there are more than one.
The right side of the page will give you an exact map location. It is the best that I
have ever seen. You can even choose whether you want
to view it in "Map" view or "Satellite"
view. On the left side of the map, you will see a little man figure. You can
zoom in or zoom out by clicking on the + at the top of the scroll bar or the - at the bottom
of the scroll bar. Or, you can drag the little - on the bar itself up or down.
If you do not know the exact name of the dance, but know what type dance it
is, you can visually search
for the address by clicking the "Dance Community" Link on the
Home Page of this site. The Dance Community is divided into two
sections, Ballroom,
and Specialty Dances. Ballroom Dances are listed by studio, club, or
general ballroom
dancing held by individuals. Specialty Dances are dances like Salsa,
Country Western,
Singles, Tango, etc.
Simply click on the type dance of your choice and it will bring you to a
listing of the
dances that The Nightly Planet has listed under that category. When
you find thedance you are seeking, simply copy (Control C) the address, click on the
Google Maps
Link at the to right had side of the page, and paste it (Control V) into the
Search Maps
window as described above. (The Dances in the Dance Community are
listed alphabetically
on the A-Z Dance Links page.)
You can also get a quick, general idea as to where a dance is by going to
the Dance
Community Page, finding the dance listing, and then looking at the Zone
Number next
to the dance name. Remember that number and go to the top right hand
corner of the
Dance Community page and find the Atlanta Zoning Map. Click on the map
and it will
enlarge. Look for the Zone Number on the map and it will show you what
part of town
it is in. I designed the Zone Map to correspond with the major
interstate system of
highways in and around Atlanta and GA 400. To return to the Dance
Community Page,
simply click the Back Arrow at the top left hand corner of Windows Explorer.

WHY YOU
SHOULD MAKE THE NIGHTLY PLANET YOUR HOMEPAGE
(06/20/09)
If you are not really using the Home Page on your computer for anything in
particular, then I would suggest making The Nightly Planet your Home Page. Your
Home Page is the page that comes up when you first go on to the internet.
The reason is that The Nightly Planet is updated nightly.
Announcements change, photos are posted, the Calendar is updated, and the photo on the Home Page
changes each day. And, you can immediately see any changes that have happened
within the last 24 hours because they are listed in red. If the announcement that
you are reading is in red, then it has been updated within the last 24 hours. That
way, you can obtain the information that you want within seconds, without reading all the
captions.
Major buttons are red when a change is made. Announcements are red
when they are new announcements. Photo updates are in red when a change is made.
They all change to blue after the 24 hours is up. Home Page archive photos are updated
nightly as well.

Over the years, The Nightly Planet has accumulated close to a thousand email
addresses in its archives. Many people have tried to purchase this list.
However, I have never given one email address out to anyone without their permission. The list is not
for sale nor will it ever be. It will not be given to anyone either, because it has been
my promise of confidentiality to my viewers.
I have seen many complicated and lengthy
emails, and believe me, this
will not be one of those! The numbers on my delete key are barely readable from
deleting emails that give me 90% information that I am not concerned with. When I get around to
sending an email, it will be short and to the point, and will have links back to The Nightly Planet in
case you would like to read more about it in the Announcements. The
main Announcement page is designed to give
you details, if you are interested. The captions at the top of the
Announcements page are closer to what you are liable to see in my emails.
Remember, my
goal is to get you back to The Nightly
Planet, not write you a dissertation in an email.

HOW TO VIEW
AND PURCHASE PHOTOS
(04/24/09) To view and order photos taken by The Nightly Planet, click on
the "PHOTOS" link
on the Home Page of this site. This will take you to the Photo Index
page. The Photo Index page
lists all of the current photo shoots that are still on display. Click
on the photo shoot of your choice
and it will take you to the Photo Stock Plus website.
From there, you can view the photos taken in that shoot and purchase them if you wish. Since
these photos are very high resolution, you can crop them before making your purchase.

WANT YOUR PHOTO TAKEN:
SAY "JUST SHOOT ME"
(04/08/09) The Nightly Planet may just show up at the dance that you
are at. So, be ready.
Practice a pose. Then flag me down and say, "Rocky, just shoot me!"
and you'll get your photo
taken. Who knows, it might even end up on the Home Page.

DO NOT WANT YOUR PHOTO TAKEN:
MAKE AN "X" WITH YOUR ARMS
(04/08/09) If you do not want your photo taken, then please get my
attention and make an
"X" with your arms. Then, after that particular dance, please ask me
if I got the message.
If you do not have time to make an "X" with your arms, you can simply close
your eyes, or one of
your eyes. If I am focusing on you, I may not see it at first.
However, when I process the photos,
I will see it and the photo will most likely be rejected automatically.
Some exceptions might be if you are too far in
the distance to make a difference, or the photo is just so good, I had to
post it. Even
then, all you have to do is to tell me to not post it or tell me to take it
down after it has posted, and I will do so with no
questions asked.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU
WANT YOUR PHOTO TAKEN DOWN
Even though photos taken by The Nightly Planet and posted on this site were
shot at public events and
open to public viewing, it is the policy of this website to respect
everyone's privacy. Therefore, if you
want your photo removed, then simply contact me immediately and make the
request. As soon as I am
at The Nightly Planet computer, I will remove it from public display for you
with no questions asked.
Please remember that if it is a group shot, there may be others in that
photo who wish to have their photo
displayed. Please consider their wishes as well when you make your
request because when I remove the
photo, everyone else in that photo is removed as well. Thank you for
your consideration.
If I am covering a public event, and you happen to
be a professional and do not want your photo displayed or sold, then please
contact me and I will remove your photo. If any profits are made on
the sale, at your request, they will be forwarded to you immediately.
Sales can be verified through Photo Stock Plus. However, in all the
years that I have been covering events, I have never once had someone ask to
purchase a photo that they were not in themselves. So, that should not
be a problem. However, the photo must be available for you to purchase
if you like. That's why it is posted.
When I receive a request to have a photo removed,
it is immediately removed and permanently deleted from The Nightly Planet
files. So, it will not be available to anyone.
It would be most helpful to me to tell me in advance if you do not want your
photo taken. And, if you see
that I am about to take a photo that you will be in, please hold your arms
up and cross them over each
other in the form of an "X" so that I can see that you don't want to be in
the photo. If I don't see it at
first, I will most likely see it when I process the photos.

information will be displayed.

WRITE DOWN COMPLETE PHOTO
NUMBERS OF PHOTOS YOU MAY PURCHASE
If you are considering purchasing a photo, but are not sure, then I strongly
suggest that you write down
the complete photo number. If you decide to purchase it, and it has
been taken down, if you give me the
photo number, I can put it back up in a special gallery for you. If you
do not know the photo number, then
you will need to contact me (Contact Us
on Home Page).
The photo number can be found by opening the gallery that it is in.
Then, simply look below the photo and you will see the photo number. It is a long number, but
you must write down the entire number in order for me to find the photo.
EG: 20090404_ABA_033
The number tells it all:
The date of the event was 04/04/09.
ABA is the abbreviation of the dance holder, in this case
Academy Ballroom Atlanta.
The photo number is 033.
Don't worry about the .jpg at the end of the number. All of my photos
are jpeg.
If there is more than one photographer shooting the event for The Nightly
Planet, then the initial of the
photographer will appear at the end of the photo number.

THE NIGHTLY PLANET LOGO ONLY APPEARS OVER THE PROOFS
For those of you who have asked, The Nightly Planet logo that appears over
the photos when you click on the photos to enlarge them, does not appear on the photos you
purchase. It only appears on the proofs that you are looking at.

Updates |
UPDATES WITHIN 24 HOURS ARE IN RED
(03/14/09) It is very important to visit The Nightly Planet EVERY NIGHT, at
least for a few quick seconds.
Changes come to me on the spur of the moment and you may miss out on a great
dance, a great special, a
competition, or simply an important time sensitive news announcement for the
Atlanta Dance Community.
Where you decide to go and dance may depend on what other events are going
on that will draw people away
from your regular dance. So, please do the following:
01) Make The Nightly Planet
a favorite
on your site,
bookmark it,
or
make it your Home Page
if you
are not using your Home Page for anything special. That way all you
have to do is turn on your
computer and open up your web browser, and you will have quick access to it.
02) Since
The Nightly Planet puts all daily
changes in red,
even the buttons on the Home Page, it only
takes a second to see where there are changes. If "Announcements" is
red, then there is either a
new announcement or there has been a change in an existing announcement.
When you go to the
Announcements section, the text will be red on the new announcements or the
changes. The
following day, I change the text to blue. If "NETWORKING"
is in red, that means a new listing
has been added. The text of the new listing will
appear in red. If "TEACHERS"
is in red, that means a new teacher has been added and the text
for that teacher will appear in red. If "CALENDARS"
is in red, that means something new has
been added to the calendar. However, in the "Calendar" section, the dance categories are
color-
coded, so the text will not change in that section.
03)
Bring up The Nightly Planet every
single day
and take a quick two-second look to see if there are
any changes. If there is, and the change is in an area that you are
interested in, then all you have
to do is click the link and you will see the change in an instant.
Then click out if you wish or go to
another part of the site.
That's all it takes. It is as easy as 1, 2, 3. -Rocky
